Memphis, Tennessee 🇺🇸

We arrived in Memphis, Tennessee! The home of legend, Elvis Presley. If you ever go to Memphis, I would recommend checking out Graceland. I loved visiting Elvis’s house and felt very moved, as I walked through his house and learned more about him. My friend and I both felt teary as we reached his gravesite. He made great music!

Visiting his home brought back fond memories of family barbecues, where Elvis’s songs would be playing in the background.

We went to Sun Studios, which I absolutely loved. It is the recording studio where many legends have recorded tracks, including Elvis, Johnny Cash and B.B. King. Sam Phillips who owned Sun records was the sound engineer for most of these legends and wanted the studio to remain exactly as it did then. To this day, the studio is the same as it was when Elvis recorded. Before, Sam passed away he wanted the microphone that everyone used to be in the studio for people to use and not behind glass. I music geeked out, there were guitars, a piano, drum kit. Nancy, who works at the studio was a fantastic storyteller and musician.

The National Civil Rights Museum is also in Memphis, which is by the former Loretta hotel. Martin Luther King Jnr was assassinated outside Loretto Hotel. I did a project in primary school on Martin Luther King and remember being fascinated by the change he brought to the USA. What a phenomenal man!

I tried pulled pork as it’s well known for being a winner at the restaurant we were in. I should have shared with my friend, because one plate was enough for a whole family. American portion sizes are funny.

We went to legendary Beale street! Memphis has a big blues scene, so I had the opportunity to check out a lot of live blues music. There was one band who were playing, some beautiful guitar riffs and performing some B.B. King covers. One of the guitarists, even played using his tongue. Again, amazing atmosphere! I love music, especially when it’s live.
