Monument Valley was a very cultural experience. The desert falls by the Arizona- Utah border and was an opportunity to experience Native American culture. The valley is situated within the Navajo nation reservation. Our guide was explaining that the reservation has its own government and law enforcements separate from the US. This helps to maintain the native culture and traditions.
We were in a jeep riding through the red desert, with the sand constantly being blown into our faces. I thought I was in a Wild West movie! Actually a lot of films have been made here, from John Ford movies to a highway used in Forrest Gump. Everyone knows how I feel about Forrest, it’s the scene where he has to keep on running.

The monuments were really something. None of them had been man crafted, it had all fallen naturally into these shapes. Two of my favourite rock monuments, were the elephant and praying hands.
