Washington D.C. 🇺🇸

I am so excited that the road trip has begun!

We drove from New York to Washington D.C. which took a few hours. I loved seeing the city at night, with the monuments lit up. For me, it was a completely different atmosphere to the hustle and bustle of NYC. Washington D.C. was quiet, peaceful and respectful especially near the National War Memorial. There were lots of monuments and buildings to see, such as the White House and Capitol Hill. Trump was at home, as he was having a meeting with the President of Nigeria. There were many Nigerian’s protesting outside the White House. When I was standing near the Washington Monument, I remembered one of my favourite films Forrest Gump! Another highlight, was seeing Abraham Lincoln’s memorial.

There are lots of museums to visit in Washington D.C. with most being completely free. I loved visiting the American History museum and learning about America in the past and present. One of my favourite exhibits was seeing the First Lady’s inauguration gowns, especially Michelle Obama’s. She has great style!

Our group went for lunch in a reasonably priced grill, near the White House. Nothing like an American burger and fries!

We explored some more of Washington D.C. and then went out for Happy Hour drinks. In the UK, we call rum and coke or vodka and orange a mixer, but here they call it rails. Anyway, I had a rail and went for a rum and coke. As a unique individual, I also ordered a pancake drizzled with maple syrup. Delicious combo! For dinner we had good old grilled chicken.

I would come back to Washington D.C. again.
